about us
At Newton’s First, we believe clothing shouldn’t fight your body — it should work with it. That’s why we fuse science, engineering, and human-centered design to create garments built for big & tall bodies, not just scaled-up versions of standard sizes.
OUR MISSION
Inspired by Sir Isaac Newton’s First Law — that an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an external force — we see ill-fitting, rigid fabrics as the “external force” trying to hold you back. Our mission is to remove that force. We design stretch, airflow, and fit into every seam so your clothes move with you, not against you.
SCIENCE DRIVEN-FIT
1. Data-driven sizing
We’ve collected and analyzed the measurements of over 50,000+ big & tall men across 20+ countries to map out shape, proportion, and movement zones. (Yes — that many.) Using this data, we create proprietary sizing grids that compensate for variations in torso length, chest breadth, arm length, and leg inseam. No more one-size-fits-all scaling
2. Mechanical stretch & fabric engineering
We don’t just pick stretchy fabrics — we engineer them. Through controlled tensile testing (think: pulling fabrics to see how far and how fast they stretch) and fatigue cycling (repeating stretch-relax cycles thousands of times), we ensure our materials maintain integrity under repeated wear. We combine elastane/spandex with performance polymers (like moisture-wicking polyesters or recycled nylon) to strike the balance between elastic recovery and lasting strength.
3. Thermoregulation & breathability
Big bodies generate heat, and trapping that excess heat is a comfort killer. We incorporate micro-porous weaves, phase-change fibers, and moisture-wicking yarns that transport sweat from your first layer to the surface of the fabric. The result: skin that stays drier, less cling, and a more consistent core temperature whether you’re walking, working, or working out.
4. Kinematic design & movement zones
Rather than treating clothes as static shapes, we use motion studies and human biomechanics to identify where stress lines and flex points occur (e.g. shoulders, elbows, hips). We integrate gussets, darting, and directional stretch zones so that the fabric yields where needed — giving freedom of motion without sag or bag.
5. Real-world & accelerated testing
We put every style through stringent trials: real users wear them during workouts, meetings, travel days. We also run accelerated durability tests (abrasion simulators, repeated washing, UV exposure) to ensure your gear survives long term. If a shirt can handle the gym or even a football field, it can handle your 9–5.
